About

Welcome to Classic Baseball Broadcasts!

My name is Tom Hannon, and I am the ultimate nerd of baseball history. I love to listen to stories about the golden age of baseball. Every day, I learn something new; a lost tidbit about a player, event, series, or single game, and I get the most excited when I can hear the audio of it actually happening.

I’ve listened to Jackie Robinson answering questions from Bob Wolfe, Vin Scully’s skills that put you into a game from 1960, Harry Caray’s excitement calling a game, Joe Wood telling you how baseball was in 1911 and sharing stories about Tris Speaker, Ty Cobb, and Walter Johnson.

It brings me tremendous joy to be able to bring these audio stories to you and give you the opportunity to enjoy these lost treasures.

They bring me back to my childhood, when my Dad told me stories about Warren Spahn, Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Gil Hodges, and Jackie Robinson, to name a few, all to the backdrop of transistor radios or his antique Grundig radio.

As I got older, Mel Allen and This Week In Baseball debuted (the gathering crowds still give me goosebumps), and as I learned about more players, we got to compare all-time greats like Mike Schmidt to Eddie Mathews. It was a wonderful time.

My research has continued to grow over the years, and one thing I noticed is that search engines consistently return the same information, missing many of the special, one of a kind events that are so unique to baseball.  I decided to create this website because I didn’t want those to get lost.

Classic Baseball Broadcasts shares these with you, giving you the ability to look at a player, team, year, day, or ballpark and immersive yourself in the men and moments in a way you won’t find anywhere else.

Everyone has their own favorite stories, games, and interviews.  Here are some of mine:

  • Favorite interview – Joe Wood
  • Highlight – 9th inning of Sandy Koufax’s perfecto called by Vin Scully
  • World Series – 1955 Game 7
  • Ballpark – Ebbets Field
  • Team broadcast – Brooklyn Dodgers
  • All-Star Game – 1941
  • Favorite player – Jackie Robinson
  • Show – This Week In Baseball

I know you have your list, too!

I would love for you to join us, send me your top lists, and hear your favorite stories. I’m here to help you rekindle those wonderful feelings we had during our childhood, those that bring you goosebumps, smiles, and maybe a tear or two of joy.

We are working hard to build this site, adding new content weekly with thousands of pieces of content including players, games, highlights, shows, and even old-time commercials. There is also a monthly Baseball Experience that takes a deep dive into immortal players, events, and milestones.

I hope to see you on the inside!

Best Regards,

Tom Hannon
